J & C Belton Tree Farm – Candidates for Oregon Tree Farmer of the Year, June 2008 - Sandy, Oregon
The Beltons, the Tree Farm owners, observed that trout species were not growing at a normal rate. They theorized the trout historically depended upon marine ions that may have been transported by mature spawning salmon in the small forest streams. In an effort to enhance natural conditions, the Beltons, in cooperation with Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, have distributed pathogen-free, frozen salmon carcasses along their streams and after 3 years are now seeing more of the food organisms in their streams.
