Oregon Forest Practices Act - Starker Timberlands - Philomath, Oregon.

These western Oregon Douglas-fir are growing 3-4 feet per year. Douglas-fir in the temperate forests of Oregon and Washington require full sunlight free from competing species for best growing conditions. The only way to achieve this is by clear-cutting. The Oregon Forest Practices Act mandates that harvest areas be replanted to a full stocking level and that streams, riparian and sensitive areas are protected. Harvest units must have a management plan approved by the State Forestry Department before harvest can begin.
