South coast Timberlands – Bosley Butte Lookout – Brookings, Oregon
South Coast demonstrates a well-managed, sustainable forest. In this photo, many aspects of sound, scientific forest management are displayed. After harvest new trees are planted. Pictured here are various age classes of reproduction from prior harvests and plantings. This photo was taken from Bosley Butte Lookout, elevation 3,400 feet. The farthest range shows the mass deforestation caused by the Biscuit Fire in the summer of 2002, which burned on Forest Service lands and the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. Little has been done on Forest Service lands to restore after fire.
